The 2025 European Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) is taking place later this month in London and will include a lively expert panel discussion about involving patients as authors of journal publications.
The session is titled, “Empowering Patient Voices in Authorship: Navigating Barriers and Enhancing Support” and is scheduled for Day 3 (29 January 2025) of the conference. Joining the panel are: Rachel Kendrick, Senior Director of Publications at AstraZeneca; Emma Doble, Patient and Public Strategy Editor at the BMJ; Ngawai Moss, an independent patient advocate; and Laurence Woollard, Director of On The Pulse. The panel will be facilitated by Stuart Donald, Founder and co-CEO of Krystelis.
Patient-authored publications are on the rise, reflecting in part evolving changes in publishing practices by some medical journals1, while calls have been for greater progress of others2. Together, the speakers will provide a valuable comparison of those with lived experience and industry partners in the quest for greater involvement of patients as authors and owners of the research to which they contribute.
For more details, visit the conference schedule here.
Please note, the panel discussion is a parallel session and will occur twice (09:00-09:45 and 09:55-10:40) to maximise the opportunity for registrants to attend in-person.
