New Role: Patient Research Team Leader for IMAB-Qi

We’re sharing some news from Laurence Woollard, director of On The Pulse: he has been appointed as Patient Research Team Leader for IMAB-Qi – the Identification of Medication Adherence Barriers Questionnaire intervention.

IMAB-Qi is a five-year research programme funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and led by the University of Leicester. It brings together researchers, clinicians and people with lived experience to improve how medication adherence is supported in NHS primary care. The programme will co-develop an adherence support intervention aimed at improving outcomes through person-centred, equitable approaches.

In this new part-time role, Laurence will lead the programme’s patient and public involvement (PPI) team. He’ll be working closely with contributors to ensure that their lived experience helps shape the design and delivery of the research – particularly in the early-stage development of the intervention.

Laurence brings both personal and professional insight into the challenges of adherence, drawing from his experience of living with a chronic bleeding disorder and from working across advocacy, policy and health systems.

IMAB-Qi is co-led by Chief Investigators Professor Debi Bhattacharya and Dr Sion Scott. The Programme Manager and Co-Investigator is Dr Jackie Martin-Kerry.

Professor Bhattacharya commented:

“We are delighted that Laurence has joined the IMAB-Qi research programme to lead the PPI team. Laurence’s breadth of experience in championing meaningful involvement from patients and members of the public will be instrumental in helping us design and deliver a research programme that is both evidence-based and truly person-centred. I am looking forward to working with Laurence over the next five years to help address the public health challenge of supporting people to start and stay on treatment that they feel is right for them.”
